Three generations of Sardegnan winemakers blend history, youth and local grape varietals.

Audarya is an ancient Sanskrit word meaning nobility of spirit, and in a broader sense refers to the humble soul of the farmer who is devoted to the sacrifice of harvesting the land he tends.

Nicoletta and Salvatore Pala, siblings in their 20s, are third-generation winemakers embarking on a new and exciting project. Audarya was founded just a couple years ago, making it the newest winery on the island. Their father Enrico Pala (pictured below with his children and me), started Audarya for his children to manage. Enrico’s vision was to take the tradition and history of the Pala family and marry it with innovation and a younger style. The brother and sister’s youthfulness comes through on their fairytale-inspired labels. And while the labels may be youthful, there’s nothing but rich history in their winemaking know-how. Enrico and his brother managed the family estate after their father Salvatore (pictured above) established it over 60 years ago.

This family-run winery is nestled in the countryside just north of Cagliari, the capital city of Sardegna. I have a deep-seated passion for Sardegna: its food, wine and people! I chose the island as my Italian home in 2003 and spend months there every year. It was such a treat to meet this lovely family and, with a great deal of Sardegnan pride, include them in DOCG’s wine selection.

On one visit to the winery, I had the honor of meeting Enrico. His kindness and generosity was amazing and he actually went out into the fields and hand-picked a pallet of grapes for me to take home for a birthday party I was having that evening. I immediately thought of the Audarya name and the farmer’s devotion and pride for his crop. They were the most amazing grapes I’ve ever tasted and I’m sure that, as we believe in Italy, the grapes will bring great prosperity to our collaboration!

I absolutely fell in love with the beauty of their place, the family’s history and creativity of the new generation. Since my first day with them, a friendship has blossomed and we have agreed to embark on this Californian adventure together, as DOCG Imports will be their only importer and representative in California.

The wines represent the truest Sardegnan traditions, using only local and autochthonous grapes. The average age of the vines at Audarya are 25 years old. DOCG Imports brings you the three most traditional Sardinian wines:  Cannonau, Monica and Vermentino.

The Audarya line brings wonderful expressions of these classic local wines and they are only available through DOCG Imports in California. If, by chance, you plan to visit Sardegna during the summer months, please allow me to organize and accompany you on a tour of the Audarya vineyard.

Contact Marina to try these authentically Sardegnan wines in your restaurant or shop our wine store to bring them to your table.
